Why would I hire a coach?
“I can run my own life. I don’t need anyone’s help” might be your first thought. I agree. Of course, you are fully capable of running your own life! I also believe that executives are capable of doing their job, and business owners know what to do. I don’t want to run your life or run your company.
Having read that you might be thinking “If you believe that, why do you coach?”
Sometimes life brings you to a fork in the road and you face a big decision as you choose which direction to take. Talking to a coach can definitely help you work through your options.
You might be facing an unexpected plot twist in your life story. You had it all mapped out, and all of a sudden something big and unexpected has happened. A coach can help you work through that unexpected event.
For some, an ongoing relationship with a coach helps them keep on track to larger goals.
How is coaching different?
Isn’t coaching just like talking to a friend, except you have to pay? Why would you listen to a coach?
Talking to a coach should be quite different from having a conversation with a friend. Coaches listen to you: you don’t listen to them. Coaches are trained to listen, to question, and to use resources to help you explore, define the issue, and find the right solutions.
I approach coaching from a simpler perspective than many in the field. There is no requirement for any set number of sessions. I charge by the hour. Sometimes one conversation can be extremely helpful. At other times, clients have wanted additional sessions. We can discuss things on the phone, via Skype, or I can coach via an email conversation.
All of this is based on your choices and what fits your lifestyle.
Here’s what a past client said about me “Your coaching style is very conversational and you offer different perspectives in a very non-judgmental and non-threating way. The way you present these alternative perspectives allows me to feel like I’m getting there myself. It’s like being on a hike and finding a marker that reassures me that I’m not totally lost.”
I’ll be honest and say that I loved hearing that because that is what I want to do. I want to have a conversation that results in you feeling as if you know what you want to do next. That sounds simple. but if you are at that fork in the road, sometimes you cannot see the simple next step.
I have experience with personal coaching, executive coaching, and small business coaching. Those last two are not one and the same. Business coaching means I view the business as the client while executive coaching means the person is the client.
If you have read my blog and the About page, you will have a perspective on who I am, and on my approach to life and business. I like to break the complex into ‘what can I do now’.
I have a unique mix of in-progress coaching training, a background in consulting, and good listening skills. I will be your sounding board but beyond listening, I will bring tools and experience to the conversation. I will ask questions and make suggestions so that we can get you moving immediately.
